They challenge you, make you proud or bewilder you from time to time. Honestly.  But when money is involved and their success is completely tied into your bottom line, not to mention your sense of being a leader, and your accomplishments.  There’s a whole new element to the game.

You work day and night to bring them into your group.  Motivation, case studies, famous quotes, private talks and whatever is trending sometimes. To bring the lead vision into focus, you worked so hard to get them here. Mostly worldwide advertising is called for. Getting them to feel part of a team is necessary.  Sometimes more than motivation is called; real pay.

What you say and what you do influences those around you. Regardless of whether you’re leading a team or you’re a part of one.  The culture you create by your words and actions is a living thing. You can cultivate it to drive amazing results.  Or you can let it languish and see your quality and culture suffer as a result.

Not only how you speak, but when you speak and who you speak to contributes to the culture you’re driving. Are you giving useful feedback in a way that the person you’re giving it to hears it.  And then wants to do something about it? What kind of feedback are you providing to your team? And how are you encouraging them to make the results you know they’re capable of?

The Question of feedback.  How can you effectively get the message out?

The most effective feedback is the kind that you to craft so that it’s the right message.  And it is delivered at the right time and for the right reason to the right person. In taking this time, you are showing a deep level of caring for your team, and that type of caring does not go unnoticed.

Feedback, of course, can come in many forms, and the same approach doesn’t work for everyone. Below are the concepts of several phrases that you should say to your team often.  Take the time to convey them in the way that they will have the most effect. It may take a little more effort, but in the end they will drive powerful results.

What you and your team members are doing is more than the word document they’re typing in, the spreadsheet they’re updating.  More than the angry call they’re managing. What they do impacts the world. Reminding them of that is powerful.
A brickmaker could see his job as mixing sand and rock to make bricks.  Or he could understand that the bricks he’s making today will build buildings that will house happy families.  That will build vibrant workplaces for generations to come.

Ennoble them.  Remind them of how powerful their work truly is.  And how great an impact they’re making on tomorrow, even if it just seems like a simple thing today. Here are four mantras you can start working

1. Trust the Universe.

If we don’t trust the universe and choose not to step into risk, then we’ll never imagine without limit. It’s only in trusting the universe that transformative actions can take place. Don’t let your team members limit their vision because they’re afraid of risk.
Encourage grand ideas, test theories, and let the wheels spin. Real change is only possible when we leap and believe that the net will find us.

2. What you resist persists. What you embrace, disappears.

Ignoring something does not make it go away and eventually, the truth will come out. You can try to put a spin on something, trying to make it seem better than it is.  But if you don’t bring problems into the open, naming and embracing them all, then you’ll never resolve them.
Team members should be encouraged always to be truthful about their challenges.  And To use the leverage of their team to find solutions. Tucking problems out-of-the-way only allows them to fester and grow.

3. Focus on doing a few things well instead of trying to do a bit of everything.

Rather than do a few things about everything, the most powerful leaders and teams choose to focus on the fewest most important things that need to be accomplished. Then do them well. Whether it’s an organization or an individual team member, encourage focus.  One to three of the most important things that need to be done that day, instead of spreading oneself thin over dozens of tasks.  It’s the key to driving real results.

4. Is it necessary?

Constantly urge your team members to check the way they do things.  Ask, “Is it necessary?” Chances are there are more than one stepa.  Action, approval, etc. that could be eliminated with no harm to the product.
The Japanese call it “muda.”  It can sneak into systems without us even realizing it.  Just like a cluttered closet at home, they need to be cleaned out regularly.

Ask your team members if the things they’re spending time doing are truly addressing the needs of the customer and the business. If they aren’t, those activities need to go.

Intentionally designing how we speak to those around us, will intentionally drive a better culture.  And ultimately, better results. Feedback, when done correctly and delivered with precision, is one of the greatest forms of caring.  And that will always be met with positivity.

Thought I’d share one of my recently archived newsletters with you today.

This is something I’m presently working on and my newsletter is a good example of some of the important things you should consider about SEO. Should I do it myself?

For some the mere thought of having to merge SEO (search engine optimization) into their marketing regiment leaves them cold with dread. And that it keeps changing all the time
doesn’t help either. But can you do it yourself?

But the fact is SEO is necessary if you hope to compete in today’s search results. The competition is getting too fierce to rank without taking advantage of every edge you can avail yourself of.

The question is, do you do it yourself or hire an SEO person or firm to do it for you? My feeling is that you should do some of it, at least so you know enough not to get ripped off by those you hire, and then leave it to the people who make it their business.

Optimizing your web pages is something you should learn.

There are a few basic things like title tags, permalinks, internal linking schemes, keyword
tags, and basic linking principles.

~title tag –

An HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. Title tags are displayed on search engine results pages (SERPs) as the clickable headline for a given result, and are important for usability, SEO, and social sharing.

~permalink –

A permalink or permanent link is a URL that is intended to remain unchanged for many years into the future, yielding a hyperlink that is less susceptible to link rot. Permalinks are often rendered simply, that is, as friendly URLs, to be easy for people to type and remember.

~internal linking scheme –

An internal linking scheme is a technique used mostly for content marketing, that links one page of a website to a different page on the same website. It aids in navigation, page authority and delineates patterns and hierarchy. Careful, misuse is frowned upon!

~keyword tags –

A keyword tag is a Meta element that is located within the HTML of a web page. Keyword tags hold eight to ten keywords or keyword phrases that include common misspellings of the main page topic or terms that directly pertain to the content of the page.

~basic linking principles –

In computing, linked data (often capitalized as Linked Data) is a method of publishing structured data so that it can be interlinked and become more useful through semantic queries. It builds upon standard Web technologies such as HTTP, RDF and URLs, but rather than using them to serve web pages for human readers, it extends them to share information in a way that can be read automatically by computers. This enables data from different sources to be connected and queried.

Principles; ‎Use URLs to name (identify) things. Use HTTP URLs so that these things can be looked up (interpreted, “unreferenced”). They provide useful information about what a name identifies when it’s looked up, using open standards such as RDF, SPARQL, etc. Refer to other things using their HTTP URL-based names when publishing data on the Web.

Once you have this down, you’ll be able to self-optimize most of what you create.

When you hire out for SEO, understand that this is not a one and done proposition. Getting your site or page to the top of the Google search results is not easily achieved, and can take some time depending on the competitiveness of the keyword term.

Be ready to hang in there for a while, or if you’re not, seek out other methods of traffic generation such as PPC (pay-per-click) or any of the other many ways to generate traffic that don’t depend on Google.

SEO can help you get highly ranked, and bring you a lot of that terrific traffic that the top spots enjoy. But it’s not cheap, (at least in terms of hours) and sometimes not fast. That said, stick with it long-term and SEO can bring you great rewards!
